What I've been up to

Grammie's birthday was last week, and of course she needed birthday cookies, so that's what she got! Balloons and I Love You hands all in a basket.

I've also been decorating the house since it's officially not summer anymore. Is it too soon to put the electric blanket on the bed? Wal-mart has their Christmas trees all up and for sale, and Luca almost convinced me to buy a giant blow up airplane with Santa driving and spinning propellers. Anyway, it's fall, and my mantel agrees.

This next bit is the most exciting thing that I've been up to. We are taking a big family vacation in December, and it will involve a multi-hour plane ride with lay overs. So, I was thinking of what would entertain Luca and not be annoying to us to carry around, or upset TSA agents. Obviously, a difficult set of criteria to work within, since it's annoying to carry a lot of stuff around, and you never can tell quite what will upset the TSA. Because I love to dive into giant time and labor intensive projects, naturally I decided I should make Luca a felt Busy Book entirely by hand and without patterns! Great Idea! So I've been at it for about a week. I've finished three pages and my mom took a couple pages with on her trip out of town and has finished them. I'm so proud, just hope I keep momentum and do all the other pages! It's something that I can add to with pages that teach more difficult concepts as Luca gets older, eventually going all the way up to SAT vocab, I imagine.

So, there's a page with Jude. His collar buckles, his front ear flaps, and down the road I'll add a bit of a leash so he can clip it onto the D-ring. Then there's a page with a fish tank, the front is clear plastic and Luca can put the fish in and out of the bowl. Next is an artist's palette with a paint brush. The little paint blobs have matching blobs with a bit of velcro on it so he can match colors and "paint" with the brush. I'll put up mom's when she's back in town and I get pictures!
